What is miracle of lanciano?

The Miracle of Lanciano is a Eucharistic miracle that is said to have occurred in the Italian town of Lanciano in the 8th century. According to tradition, a Basilian monk who was doubting the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist celebrated Mass and during the consecration, the bread and wine miraculously turned into flesh and blood.

The flesh is said to be cardiac tissue, while the blood is in a coagulated state. In 1971, the Church allowed for scientific testing to be conducted on the relics. The tests showed that the flesh is human heart tissue and the blood is of human origin as well. Strangely, the flesh and blood have not decomposed over the centuries, remaining intact despite not being preserved in any special way.

The Miracle of Lanciano is considered one of the most well-documented Eucharistic miracles in the history of the Catholic Church and is still venerated by believers from around the world. It serves as a powerful reminder of the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.
